There was an emptiness to Wonderland
The day that Alice left
She’d watched them all lose their minds
Then watched them lose themselves
She mourned every passing
The many loves she’d laid to rest
She wished she’d known so long ago
That Death would be her test
The Death that comes with love
And the Death that comes with dying
The Death that comes with living
And the Death with just surviving
Somehow she’d beaten all of them
While so many, there, did not
She suffered the remembering
While Wonderland forgot
The Red Queen lured the Rabbit
To a truly bitter end
The Hatter lost his battle
For the tea was not his friend
The Caterpillar choked on smoke
That spelled out “who are you?”
That bloody Cat just disappeared
Cuz that’s what felines do
Alice fought with everything
She had worth fighting for
Until the day she chose to live
And wouldn’t, anymore
That truly is the secret
To how Alice did survive
She possessed the purest heart
So she left that land alive.
